Veterans Remodel Project 1
This remodeling project was funded by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs as part of their Specialty Adaptive Housing program. This program allows our disabled veterans to remain in their home as long as possible. This type of remodel is often referred to as “universal design”.
This veteran is confined to a wheelchair which made it impossible for him to access the back yard. We widened the walkway from the driveway and extended it around the side of the house to the back patio. We added a ramp in the garage and widened the house to garage doorway so the veteran could enter the house via the garage. The twenty year old cat appreciates the ramp, too!
In the master suite we removed an existing window and replaced it with French doors an a ramp to allow access to the back yard. The doorway into the master bathroom was widened. We removed the existing tub and shower and replaced it with a “wet room” design featuring a tiled sloped floor and the walls were tiled up to the ceiling. A comfort hight toilet was installed along with grab bars for added safety. We designed a custom accessible vanity and counter top which is beautiful as well as functional.
We are very proud of the work we do for our veterans, if you know of a veteran who could benefit from this program please visit the Dept. of Veterans Affairs benefits page for more information.
